I live in the Boston metropolitan area with juliansinger and some guppies.

I've spent a good bit of time working in child and adolescent mental health, which is where my heart lies. After a bad year in a clinical social work program, however, I kind of fell off the face of the world. I became a certified EMT because I'm fascinated by that stuff and thought it might be a good interim profession for me, but then after a while spent in fruitless jobsearching, realized that I was actually not sure I wanted the jobs, and went back to relief staffing for mental/behavioral staff. It's a completely inadequate living, but it's what I've got right now.

In the process of falling off the face of the world, I fled from one milieu after another. School, then the EMT connections I made, LJ... When I'm not in flight mode, my life - and hence my LJ - is more than a bit chaotic and filled with explorations into the murky undertow of my head, punctuated at random intervals with geeking about animals, photography, jewelry-making, political theory, economics, speculative fiction, and home-made health/beauty products.

There's a meme that goes around periodically, "Ask Me Anything," to give people a chance to clarify things they don't understand in the journals they read. I never do the meme. Just ask. I'm not impossible to offend, but it's extremely unlikely you'll manage it with a question. Feel free to add me to your reading/friends list, if it should happen that you want to. I'll be flattered. You don't need permission, though introductions are fun. Since I don't lock many of my entries, I think of it as a reading list; I tend to add people to my own list erratically, in clumps, most often the people I've had conversations with.

My interest list is skewed a little bit because I added four or five items at the point when there had been journal deletions/suspensions for listing 'incest' and similar topics as interests, and I felt a need to do something, halfway between not backing down and simply proving to myself that I wasn't going to get my journal deleted, in spite of prevalent fears on the subject.

About LJ MESSAGES: I don't always get them. I'm supposed to get e-mail notification of them, but sometimes I don't.

If you want to talk to me and don't want to do it in my journal, please E-MAIL me at my livejournal address (callunav@livejournal.com).
*E-mail.* E-mail, e-mail, e-mail. I want to hear what you want to say. Thank you.

Special request:

Please don't hug me.

Sometimes I write upsetting stuff and a lot of folks are really supportive, and I appreciate that (though I certainly don't require it). Sometimes people show that support by offering virtual hugs. While I really appreciate the sentiment behind this, I ask that you try not to use that means of expressing it. I have a very vivid imagination: if you present yourself as hugging, I will imagine myself being hugged. And, especially when I'm upset about something, I'm not always ready to be touched, even virtually. Maybe you could offer me virtual flowers or virtual crêpes-suzette or something, instead.
